New Hanover Community Endowment Secures Additional Funding from Hospital Sale

Funding will support future investment opportunities in New Hanover County

WILMINGTON, N.C., May 25, 2023 – Today, New Hanover County Board of Commissioners announced the distribution of additional funds from the sale of the county-owned hospital to Novant Health. The $75,000,000 from the escrow account will be split between the New Hanover Community Endowment (NHCE) and the Hospital Endowment. The money was released from the escrow account on Thursday, May 25.

The Endowment plans to use the additional funds to support future grant opportunities for non-profits in New Hanover County.

“This new funding is an exciting development for the Endowment,” said William Buster, president and CEO of NHCE. “These additional assets create new possibilities for the Endowment and additional opportunities for our partners to make even greater progress toward creating transformational change here in the county.”
