New Hanover Community Endowment now welcomes grant inquiries on a rolling basis. You can start the inquiry process whenever your project, program, initiative, or idea is ready by following the process outlined below.

What We Fund

At New Hanover Community Endowment we are focused on partnering with the community to significantly improve by focusing on four pillars:

Education

Social & Health Equity

Community Development

Community Safety

Who We Fund

We support organizations that are seeking to identify and address root causes in these areas, aiming for long-lasting and deeply impactful solutions.

  • New Hanover County organizations classified as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3)
  • New Hanover County public agencies, including state and local governments
  • New or emerging organizations without 501(c)(3) status are permitted to apply through a tax-exempt organization acting as fiscal sponsor.
    • The fiscal sponsor must maintain full discretion and control over any awarded grant funds and should have the organizational capacity to manage and accept the risks involved with fiscal sponsorship
    • The project must be aligned with the fiscal sponsor’s charitable mission
    • The fiscal sponsor’s board must approve the project as furthering the sponsor’s charitable mission before completing a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) with the Endowment.

We leverage a variety of strategies across the four pillars to advance our goals.

Grantmaking – Investing dollars to have greater impact.

Convening – Bringing together partners, community groups, and other funders to strengthen our impact.

Capacity building – Enhancing the work of community partners through support and learning.

Communication – Using our platform to amplify the challenges and opportunities in our community.

Evaluation – Continually measuring our investment to understand and share how together we can make the greatest impact. Also demonstrating our process, successes, and challenges.
